This is to advise you...

that your application for permanent residence has been received at the Regional Programme Centre (RPC) and that a file has been created for you.

Oh my gods! My anal retentiveness and patience has paid off. Our immigration application has been accepted by the Canadian Government - which means that it was free of problems and/or mistakes. It's only a matter of months now! Based on the information I have been reading from others and my e-mail group it could be as little as 3-6 months before we are required to submit additional paperwork, undergo a medical examination and possibly complete an interview. After that it's just a matter of Ottawa processing our paperwork.

Oh my God this is really happening :-)

There have been 11,344 service people wounded in Iraq.

Anywhere from 17,061 to 19,432 civilians have been killed in Iraq.

There have been 1,694 coalition troop deaths: 1,520 Americans, 86 Britons, eight Bulgarians, one Dane, two Dutch, two Estonians, one Hungarian, 21 Italians, one Kazakh, one Latvian, 17 Poles, one Salvadoran, three Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, two Thai and 17 Ukrainians.

27 of them were named Nicole, Nicholas, Nikki, Nikolas, Dominick, Nick or some other variation.

Waiting in Canada...

I woke up this morning with Canada on my mind. It's officially been a little over a month now since the consulate in Buffalo received our application. The e-mail group I belong to on Canadian Immigration tells me that its a good sign to not have heard anything yet. Usually, if there is something wrong with the application they send it back right away so you can start over. The longer it takes the more it means they are processing it. Some people hear back in a month, others in three - usually its just a letter saying that you are being processed and they give you an ID so you can check the process of your application on line.

I haven't been so anxious about getting a letter in the mail since I first applied for college!

I run to the mailbox everyday when I get home praying that there is not a large packet being returned to me, and hoping for an envelope with a little Canadian flag on it.

Sigh.

Oh Canada, Sweet Canada...

The other night I was surfing the web trying to figure out how long the process is to hear back from Canadian Immigration about the receipt of our paperwork, when I stumbled across this website. Here are some excerpts:

Equality—We respect everyone’s rights. Everyone has the right to speak out and express ideas that others might disagree with. Governments must treat everyone with equal dignity and respect—two other fundamental Canadian values.

Peace—We are proud of our non-violent society and our international role as peacekeepers.

Law and order—We respect democratic decision making and the “rule of law.” We promote due process so that the courts and the police treat everyone fairly and reasonably. We ensure that our elected governments remain accountable to Canadians.

In Canada, we also believe in the importance of working together and helping one another.

A healthy environment is important to quality of life. All citizens should act in a responsible manner toward the environment so that our children have the opportunity to live in a country that is clean and prosperous.

The Parliament buildings are in Ottawa, Ontario, the capital of Canada. The tower in the centre of the buildings is called the Peace Tower.

I thought about this all day yesterday as I drove through the mountains of Colorado. Processing how I would write this entry. I know it seems odd, and very Cancer, but I started crying when I read these statements. As I told a friend, when I read them they resonated in my soul and I felt that this is where I belong, this is where my soul should have been born. I'm not downing the United States, but it has so stopped being my home. I've said it before and I will say it agian - this is not the same country my parents moved to in 1968 - this is not the same nations of my child hood. When a governement, a society puts these principles in its citizensip guide as what is their most important goals it says a lot about the character of that culture.

I hope I get to go home soon.
